In today’s society of spell check and text messaging lingo, the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette and the Kiwanis Club of Acadiana see the need to continue the great tradition of the Spelling Bee. Over 35 schools from the Acadiana area participate in the Bee each year and prepare for stiff competition.
Individual schools register with the National Scripps Spelling Bee and conduct a Bee within their school. One winner from each of two divisions (3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade) is sent on to the Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee to compete with area schools. Regional winners receive prizes and the 6th-8th grade divisional winner and one chaperone is sent on an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee. Participants surviving the preliminary rounds at the national bee will compete on live television.
The next Annual Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee will be in Spring 2016!
