Kiwanis Defining Statement
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world –
one child and one community at a time.
Since 1983, the Kiwanis Club of Acadiana has provided continued service to the children of the Acadiana area.
We’re Not Your Grandfathers Kiwanis
The regular lunch or dinner meetings have earned Kiwanis a less than flattering moniker from the younger set: ROMEO — Real Old Men Eating Out. We are a group of young professionals, 49% men and 51% women who meet regularly. Some make it every week, some only once a month, but as club members will attest, we are about a lot more than a weekly meal. We’re about neighborhood service, helping children and building a sense of community. There is no secret handshake, no secret policy, no official creed, no secret meetings or rituals. It is an open society of men and women who simply believe in helping.
Your participation depends on your schedule, not ours. You get out of the organization what you put into it and more. Kiwanis does not require a certain amount of hours dedicated by its members, but we warn you – you might loose your heart to a particular project and end up volunteering more than you planned!
Kiwanis is about Service – not meetings.

Our club has been recognized as a “Distinguished Club” several times. This designation classifies clubs who meet the District Governor’s goals and criteria for growth in membership and service; administrative excellence; support of Kiwanis District and International Foundations; as well as attendance and participation in District and International conferences and conventions.
There are 22 divisions in the district. Kiwanis of Acadiana is in Division 7. Other clubs in our division are Abbeville, Breaux Bridge, Crowley, Eunice, Opelousas, Lafayette and Southwest Lafayette. There are more than 180 clubs in the district with approximately 7,000 members combined. The Kiwanis of Acadiana sponsors the K-Kids Club at Ossun Elementary, the first such club in Division 7.
